Radu Malfatti: wurzel lamapundus. Antoine Beuger: carthamrosa. Los Angeles Saxophone Ensemble, LASE: Ulrich Krieger, Casey Anderson, Casey Butler, Marta Tiesenga. The Dog Star Orchestra is an ensemble and a once-a-year festival of experimental music, started in 2005 by Michael Pisaro as a way of playing recent experimental music by young composers and classic pieces from the experimental tradition. Described as “messily exceptional” by the Los Angeles Times, Dog Star events happen throughout the Los Angeles area and often feature offbeat performances in out-of-the-way places, alongside more traditional concert settings.

Niños Del Desierto - A Night of Music, Puppets and Storytelling

Presented by Los Angeles Performance Practice. Niños Del Desierto Residency - Open Studio & Storytelling Event. As part of their Los Angeles Performance Practice R&D Residency, first-time collaborators Latin folk band Cuñao and puppeteer Beth Peterson will close out their residency with an open studio and evening of story sharing and song. The collaboration focuses on images from Cuñao's song Niños Del Desierto, which brings attention to children who cross the border on their own with the hopes of reaching a family member or relative once they reach the other side. The evening will feature music by Cuñao, excerpts from the work in progress, and the sharing of stories among those gathered to inform the next phase of this work. [ENGLISH BELOW] Estos dos talleres, ofrecidos por Antena Los Ángeles (LA) y Relaciones Inesperadas (Tijuana), re-imaginan la frontera utilizando las herramientas de la justicia del lenguaje y anti- o inter- o contra- conceptualizaciones de la frontera. En su taller, Antena Los Ángeles proporcionará una perspectiva básica sobre los principios y prácticas de la justicia del lenguaje, y lxs participantes luego experimentarán la justicia del lenguaje en acción durante un taller bilingüe de creación de arte facilitado en español por Relaciones Inesperadas con interpretación para cualquier persona que no sea bilingüe en español e inglés. En el taller titulado USB. Universo Simbólico Borderizo // Universe Symbolically Bordered, lxs participantes, juntx con Relaciones Inesperadas, crearán varias piezas en imagen y texto (bilingüe) con la idea de ampliar el concepto de “frontera” como una colectividad temporal.
These two workshops, offered by Antena Los Ángeles (LA) and Relaciones Inesperadas (Tijuana), reimagine the border by using the tools of language justice and anti- or cross- or contra- conceptualizations of the border. In their workshop, Antena Los Ángeles will provide a basic overview of language justice principles and practices, and participants will then experience language justice in action during a bilingual artmaking workshop facilitated in Spanish by Relaciones Inesperadas, with interpretation for anyone who is not bilingual in Spanish and English. In the workshop titled USB: Universo Simbólico Borderizo // Universe Symbolically Bordered, participants, together with Relaciones Inesperadas, will create a number of bilingual image-text works, with the idea of broadening the concept of “border” as a temporary collectivity.
